The Ultimate Fighter 18 – Episode 10 Recap

The Ultimate Fighter 18: Team Rousey vs. Team Tate continued tonight on FOX Sports 1. This season features 8 men and 8 women bantamweights battling together in The Ultimate Fighter house for the first time in the show’s history. Tune in each week as the fighters, coached by UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and rival Miesha Tate, vie for a six-figure UFC contract on FOX Sports 1. [Spoilers Below]

Show opens up with Team Rousey getting a visit from their coach and Ronda is bearing food for the fighters now eliminated from competition. It is a gesture appreciated by her fighters. Meanwhile, there is discord in the Team Tate ranks as some of the fighters believe their is obvious favoritism being shown to Juliana Peña over her other fighters. Similar sentiments are shared on the men’s side regarding Chris Holdsworth, as fighters are being required to train striking with him despite injuries.

The show then heads to a Harley-Davidson boot camp, as the quarterfinalists and coaches learn how to ride a Harley. UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez stops by the session on his Harley to help keep the fighters motivated. Another guest appears on the show at the Team Rousey session as Nate Diaz stops by, to the elation of the fighters, to guest coach along side fellow former TUF 5 finalist Manny Gamburyan, who is regular coach for Team Rousey.

The show turns to final looks at both of tonight’s fighters. Team Tate’s Chris Holdsworth talks about being more solitary to stay focused on the final goal, while Team Rousey’s Michael Wootten struggles with the anxiety of being away from home and his coaches help him combat burnout.

Both fighters make weight without issue and with the weigh-ins complete, it is time for this week’s fight. With the show moving into the semifinals, all remaining bouts will consist of three five minute rounds.

Chris Holdsworth (Team Tate) vs. Michael Wootten (Team Rousey)

Rd. 1- Combos by CH early but MW starts backing up with pressure strikes of his own. Holdsworth looks for and secures a double leg along the cage and advances from half guard to side control but is unable to really capitalize before Wootten starts to stand. Holdsworth has a D’arce choke, and it is tight, but elects to go for a standing RNC, in slick fashion, as Wootten fights out. The choke is on the chin however but a late adjustment by Holdsworth helps him secure and finish the choke.
